COLLABORATORS
(and innocent bystanders)

Since the very first "happening" -- the Funeral for the 80s in 1988 -- many people have come to realize just how cool Blue Man Group is. Here's a partial list of musicians and others who have collaborated with BMG, helped them along...or just been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Jay Leno: Jay gets top billing because he's featured BMG on the Tonight Show a record-breaking 14 times.  Always friendly to Blue Man, he's been a victim as well as a great fan.  The Tonight Show with Jay Leno

Dave Matthews: Not the first musician to collaborate, but my favorite of those who have.  The story goes that Dave took his current wife to see Blue Man as a first date...and he's been a big fan ever since.  BMG appeared in a cameo in the video for "Everyday"; Dave returned the favor by collaborating on "Sing Along" from Blue Man's latest album, The Complex.  He's also featured in the video for the song, during which he's disrespected by a stick-figure dog, and eventually covered in orange goo.  Another victim and fan...hmm...do I sense a pattern here?  Dave Matthews Band.com

Moby:  As far as I know, the first musician to collaborate with BMG, along with Jill Scott, for the amazing Grammy 2001 performance of Moby's "Natural Blues".  Moby was so wowed by Blue Man that he invited them along on his Area:2 tour in the summer of 2002...which was a testing ground for BMG's new material that became The Complex Tour, which toured in the spring, summer and fall of 2004 through more than 90 cities.  Moby.com    Jill Scott    Grammy Performance at BML

Tracy Bonham, Peter Moore and Venus Hum:  Tracy and Peter, along with Kip, Tony and Annette of Venus Hum, have not only collaborated on several tracks of The Complex, but have been a big part of why The Complex Tour has been so successful.  Talented musicians in their own right, they've gained many fans last year from the audiences who were lucky enough to see a tour show.  Tracy Bonham   Peter Moore (Count Zero)   Venus Hum

Gavin Rossdale is featured on the song "The Current" from The Complex, which was also the song that ran beneath the credits for Terminator 3.  Gavin performed live on the Tonight Show, as well as in the video for the song.  Gavin Rossdale (Bush)

Esthero is the one providing the trippy multi-part harmonies on "White Rabbit", and Josh Haden sounds mighty repressed on "Persona".  (And I mean that in the best possible way.)  Esthero   Josh Haden (Spain)

Rob Swift added some cool turntable riffs to "Shadows Part 2" and Dan the Automator helped produce the first Blue Man Group album to include vocals.  Rob Swift (X-ecutioners)   Dan the Automator

Award-winning lighting designer Marc Brickman helped to give The Complex Tour its amazing visuals, and the lighting for the Berlin venue show.  The Complex has pretty much ruined me for any other rock concert, I fear...   Marc Brickman

The Intel commercials for the Pentium III and 4 chips provided a first taste of Blue Man Group for many people.  The commercials are also notable for the fact that BMG did it on their terms...not Intel's.  Intel commercials at BML

Drew Carey featured Blue Man Group in his annual live show in 2001.  It was fun to see Blue Man in someone else's world for a change...even if it was Cleveland.  (I'm from Michigan, so all hate e-mail from Ohioans will automatically be stopped and checked for viruses.)  Drew Carey Show

Frankie Muniz is the shortest Blue Man to date, and the only actor outside of the Blue Man organization to appear in Blue on television (during a Tonight Show visit).  Poor Chris...that banana peel is the oldest trick in the book.  Frankie Muniz

Robin Williams and Mel Gibson have both been victims of Blue Man's sense of humor while sitting on the Tonight Show couch.  Tonight Show appearances at BML

Regis Philbin
was the only male Feast Guest I've ever heard about (during a show at the Astor Place), and Kathie Lee Gifford was a bit preoccupied with some collateral damage to a stocking during Blue Man's first visit to the show, but she eventually got into the swing of things for some Paint Drumming.  Live with Regis appearances at BML
